August 20th, 2007The water level has risen yet another foot this week and is now at the highest recorded August level. The occasional mayfly is still to be seen and there have been large hatches of the heather fly. With the feeder burns running high all week the burn mouth areas have provided good sport. The loch was stocked on Wednesday with another 2000 quality brown trout. The biggest fish caught last week was a superb 2lb 15oz brownie caught on a Straggle Dabbler in Boathouse Bay by 18 year old Jamie Walker from Irvine and was included in a catch of 3 fish in total for 6lbs 4oz. Included amongst the club catches were IBM Fishing Club, 8 boats, 32 fish for 34lbs 2oz - best bag Harry Milns 7 for 7lb and the Penicuik AC 4 boats 8 fish for 8lbs 9oz.The best flies have been the Claret Straggle Dabbler, Clan Chief, Kate McLaren, Heather Fly and the Dunkeld and the best areas have proved to be Boathouse bay, Road Shore, Submarine Island, Carsaig, Mid deeps and the Grass Bank.The Scottish Youth Championships are being held this weekend.
