10th September
September 10th, 2007The eastern drifts have come alive with fish over the weekend with large numbers of brownies being seen at Portnellan and Grass banks, close to the shore. There have been some superb catches reported from these areas. September is traditionally a great month for Venachar with large natural brownies being caught. Many spooned fish have been found to have gorged themselves on the Heather Fly.Eric Ross, from Liverpool had a cracking 4lb 6oz fish from Grahavie Bay, on a Claret Sedgehog using a midge tip line and Peter Bowles from Newcastle upon Tyne, had his limit by lunchtime and returned a further 8 fish. The trout Anglers Club, Edinburgh, 3 boats, had 4 fish with John Young being top rod with 2 fish for 2lbs 12oz.The best flies last week were the Claret Sedgehog, Claret Straggle Dabbler, Yellow tag Kate McLaren, Clan Chief, Blue Zulu and the Pearly Invicta and the best drifts proved to be Portnellan, Grass Banks, Grahavie Bay and Boat House Bay.
